Ashley Wheater MBE, The Mary B. Galvin Inventive Director of The Joffrey Ballet, introduced the Joffrey’s 2023–2024 Season, that includes a Chicago debut of a full-length gothic masterpiece set within the daybreak of contemporary science; a blended rep program that includes a world premiere; the return of a Swedish tour de pressure; and a vacation custom boldly reimagined for a brand new technology.
The Joffrey Ballet begins its 68th season with Liam Scarlett’s Chicago premiere of Frankenstein. Adopted by the return of Christopher Wheeldon’s enchanting manufacturing of The Nutcracker, and Research in Blue, an enlightening blended rep program with authentic work choreographed by Scarlett and Andrew McNicol, rounded out with a world premiere by Stina Quagebeur. Closing out the season is the return of Alexander Ekman’s otherworldly journey into Midsummer Night time’s Dream, which is much from a Shakespearean story.
